Virus gives wake-up call about exotic pets brought into country

There are "dog people" and "cat people" so why not "flying squirrel people'"

"I got my first one back in 1997," said Andrew Watts, 24, who now has four flying squirrels he sometimes lets loose in the airspace over his Lake Mary living room.

He also has four prairie dogs, genetic relatives of the squirrel.

"I'm really into squirrels in general," he said. "What makes me own these' They're unique pets . . . but they're not for everybody. You need to know a lot about them when you get them."
