BPI-ANCA in sera are responsible for lower resistance to P. aeruginosa

Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies appear to be directly responsible for lowering cystic fibrosis patient's ability to kill Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

According to a study from Czech Republic, "Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) directed against bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein (BPI) were repeatedly found in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. We analyzed the effect of BPI-ANCA in inhibiting neutrophil-mediated killing of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
