Assay for itraconazole drug monitoring developed

An assay for determining itraconazole levels in treated patients has been developed.

Published research from Germany described a "method for the simultaneous quantification of the antifungal drug itraconazole and its co-active metabolite hydroxyitraconazole in plasma employing liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry and automated solid-phase extraction".

"The method proved rugged, enables short turn-around times and is highly specific," reported M. Vogeser and coauthors working at the University of Munich.
