Chickpea-derived peptide has potent and durable antifungal activity

A novel peptide derived from chickpeas shows promise as an antifungal agent.

"A peptide designated cicerarin, with an N-terminal amino acid sequence VKSTGRADDDLAVKTKYLPP dissimilar from known proteins and peptides and a molecular mass of 8 kDa, was isolated from seeds of the green chickpea Cicer arietinum cv green chickpea," reported K.T. Chu and colleagues at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
