Immune response to flu shot different in people with mild symptoms of depression

Immune system responses may differ between people with symptoms of depression compared to those without depressive symptoms, according to new research.

The immune system can be triggered in a variety of ways, including by infections or injuries. One way the immune system reacts to trauma or infection is by triggering an inflammatory response, which helps direct infection fighting white blood cells to the involved site. This process is mediated by the production of molecules called pro-inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin 6 (IL-6).
