Nonprofit pharmaceutical seeks drug approval next year

The Institute for OneWorld Health, a nonprofit pharmaceutical company, has announced that it is only a year away from seeking approval for its first medicine, a drug to cure a deadly parasitic disease in India.

The announcement came from Founder and CEO Victoria Hale, PhD. Hale was invited to speak at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, as a panelist in a roundtable discussion, "Winning the All-Fronts War against AIDS." While at the international meeting, Hale announced OneWorld Health's intention to bring paromomycin to market in India in the next year.

Paromomycin is a treatment for visceral leishmaniasis (VL), also known as kala azar....
