Steven Hinrichs, MD, a member of UNMC's department of Pathology and Microbiology, was among those speaking at the first in a series of mini-medical school sessions satellite-linked across the state.
In the late 1970s, many doctors thought there wouldn't be a need to include courses in infectious disease and microbiology in medical school curriculum, Hinrichs said. They believed they had eradicated infectious diseases.
