Mosquitoes positive for West Nile in New Mexico

Mosquitoes collected from Sunland Park, New Mexico, have tested positive for West Nile Virus.

The mosquitoes were captured by Sunland Park vector employees from the Wild Cat Bosque area. A laboratory run by the Texas Department of Health confirmed that the insects were carrying the virus.

"It's unfortunate that there were mosquitoes that tested positive, but I'm glad to see that the city's vector control department was on top of the situation and handled it as quickly as they did," Mayor Ruben Segura said.

The city will increase fogging and surveillance of mosquito breeding areas.
