New West Nile virus infection in Mobile County, Alabama

Mobile County, Alabama, health officials announced a new human case of West Nile virus, bringing the county's total this year to 13.

The latest case involves a man in his late 40s who lives in the Odore area, the Mobile County Health Department said.

Health department entomologist Kelly Micher said the man, who likely was infected in August, is recovering.

According to the state health department, Mobile is the only county in the state to report any human infections this year. Twenty dead birds collected in Mobile County this year also have tested positive for the virus. There were five human cases reported in Mobile County last...
