Ineffective vaccine given to about 300 in Arkansas, health official says

The state's top health official says some central Arkansas residents think they're protected from the flu, when they're not.

Fay Boozman, MD, director of the state Health Department, said about 300 people who got flu shots on November 3 at the State Fairgrounds got ineffective vaccine.

The Health Department sent a letter November 16, 2004, to all of the approximately 2,300 people who got their flu shots at the fairgrounds that day. The letter says some doses of vaccine were accidentally frozen and made ineffective, and those who got those shots will need to be inoculated again.
