Tama County, Iowa, records 21st case of whooping cough

Tama County, Iowa, has recorded its 21st case of whooping cough, county health officials said.

A student at South Tama High School contracted the illness, also known as pertussis.

The first cases of the disease first appeared in the county in early October. The majority of the cases occurred in northern Tama County and involved school-age children, officials said.

North Tama schools in Traer were closed earlier this year after children contracted the illness.
