Avian influenza devastated poultry farms across Asia this year, forcing the cull of tens of millions of birds. The virus spread to humans, killing 20 in Vietnam and 12 in Thailand.
Thai health authorities isolated the virus from five human cases and sent samples for vaccine research to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia, said Thawat Suntrajarn, director-general of the Department of Communicable Disease Control.
