Restriction on flu shots lifted in Oklahoma

Oklahoma has a surplus of more than 17,000 doses of flu vaccines and state health officials have decided to end restrictions that called for the shots to be given only to people in high risk groups.

Effective January 19, 2005, free flu shots were made available at county health departments on a first-come, first-served basis.

There was high demand in October and November when a nationwide shortage of flu vaccine was announced.

Vaccine was redirected to states that supposedly were going to fall short of vaccinating all those at high-risk. Once the vaccine became more plentiful, demand dropped.
