"The type 2 precusor plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDC) represent the most important cell type in antiviral innate immunity. To understand the function of pDC during hepatitis B virus infection, the frequency and function of circulating pDC were analyzed by flow cytometric analysis, and interferon (IFN)-alpha secretion of total peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in 25 healthy subjects and 116 patients at various stages of chronic hepatitis B virus infection (CHB)," scientists in the Peoples Republic of China report.
