Toxinotype III-producing C. difficile strain associated with severe disease outbreaks

A toxinotype III-producing Clostridium difficile strain is associated with severe disease outbreaks in North America and Europe.

According to recently published research from the United States, "Toxins A and B are the primary virulence factors of Clostridium difficile. Since 2002, an epidemic of C. difficile-associated disease with increased morbidity and mortality has been present in Quebec province, Canada."
