Breastfeeding with zidovudine prophylaxis is not as effective as formula feeding in preventing postnatal HIV transmission.
According to a recently published study from the United States, "Postnatal transmission of human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV) via breast-feeding reverses gains achieved by perinatal antiretroviral interventions."
