New data from Naval Health Research Center illuminate research in legionnaire disease

A new study, "A cluster of Legionella-associated pneumonia cases in a population of military recruits," is now available. "A Legionella cluster was identified through retrospective PCR analysis of 240 throat swab samples from X-ray-confirmed pneumonia cases," scientists writing in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology report.

"These were identified among young and otherwise healthy USA. military recruits during population-based surveillance for pneumonia pathogens. Results were confirmed by sequence analysis," wrote E.A. McDonough and colleagues, Naval Health Research Center.
