Investigators at University of New South Wales release new data on infectious mononucleosis genetics

Scientists discuss in "Gene expression correlates of postinfective fatigue syndrome after infectious mononucleosis" new findings in infectious mononucleosis. According to recent research published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases, "Infectious mononucleosis (IM) commonly triggers a protracted postinfective fatigue syndrome (PIFS) of unknown pathogenesis. Seven subjects with PIFS with 6 or more months of disabling symptoms and 8 matched control subjects who had recovered promptly from documented IM were studied."
