Findings in pituitary cancer reported from Technical University of Munich

"A 35 year old woman was admitted to our hospital with symptoms and signs of acromegaly that started one year earlier. Cranial MRI revealed an intra- and suprasellar mass lesion," scientists in Munich, Germany report. "She was treated with a somatostatin therapy but eventually underwent a transphenoidal resection of the intrasellar mass. The major part represented residual acini of adenohypophysial cells surrounded by an intact reticulin fiber network. Within the pituitary tissue scattered masses of histiocytes surrounded by lymphocytes and plasma cells as well as rare multinucleated giant cells were present. There was no caseous necrosis.
