New life sciences research from A. Alanio et al outlined



June 3rd, 2008

According to recent research published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases, "Trichoderma longibrachiatum, a filamentous fungus, was recently described as an emerging pathogen in immunocompromised patients."

"Here, we report the first case, to our knowledge, of isolated invasive lung infection by T. longibrachiatum in a patient with hematologic malignancy," wrote A. Alanio and colleagues.

The researchers concluded: "The infection mimicked invasive pulmonary aspergillosis and was successfully treated with a combination of voriconazole and caspofungin."
