New clinical microbiology and infectious disease findings from E. Canalejo and co-researchers published

"Enterococcus hirae infection is extremely rare in humans. In this paper, we describe a case of Enterococcus hirae spondylodiscitis complicated with anterior epidural abscess and multiple psoas abscesses in a 55-year-old man with diabetes mellitus," scientists in Madrid, Spain report. "Despite appropriate antimicrobial therapy, surgery was required. This is the first reported case of spondylodiscitis due to this microorganism," wrote E. Canalejo and colleagues. The researchers concluded: "Only two other case reports of human infection by E. hirae are available in the medical literature worldwide." Canalejo and colleagues published...
