New findings reported from Complutense University describe advances in mucormycosis

"Although mucormycosis is not as frequent as candidiasis and aspergillosis, it remains a challenge for clinicians and microbiologists," scientists in Madrid, Spain report. "Mucormycosis is a rare infection, although some institutions report an increasing incidence, and it continues to have a high mortality rate despite antifungal treatment. Few antifungal agents have in vitro activity against the Mucorales," wrote J. Guinea and colleagues, Complutense University.
