Transplants research advances have been reported from Switzerland, Spain and the United Kingdom. Study 1: Hepatopulmonary syndrome increases the postoperative mortality rate after liver transplantation. Scientists writing in the American Journal of Transplantation report, "Hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) is a frequent pulmonary complication of patients with end-stage liver diseases. HPS is diagnosed by hypoxemia and pulmonary vascular dilatation and is an independent risk factor of mortality.
