Residual recipient lymphoid cells may have produced multiple red cell (RBC) alloantibodies in the early posttransplant period.
"This is the first reported case of severe immune hemolytic anemia due to multiple RBC alloantibodies after an allogeneic bone marrow transplant," wrote Aurelio Lopez and colleagues from La Fe University Hospital, Valencia, Spain ("Severe Hemolytic Anemia Due to Multiple Red Cell Alloantibodies after an ABO-Incompatible Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant," Transfusion, 1998;38:247-251).
