Tulsa elementary student tests positive for tuberculosis

A Tulsa elementary school student has tested positive for tuberculosis, and 70 students and their teachers are to be tested, Tulsa Public Schools announced May 17, 2004.

The 70 third-grade students at Emerson Elementary School who had direct contact with the infected student took permissions slips home schools spokesman John Hamill said.

The slips ask parents to authorize skin tests for tuberculosis he said. A letter accompanying the forms said, "It is essential to your child's good health to take advantage of" the screening.

The Tulsa City-County Health Department will conduct the tests free of charge. The agency said only...
