Parenteral Flu Vaccination Prompts Immune Response

A rapid immune response occurred simultaneously in the blood and the upper respiratory tract of subjects vaccinated subcutaneously with inactivated influenza vaccine, suggesting a rapid humoral response in the upper respiratory tract.

An increased production of influenza virus-specific antibodies has been detected in in vitro cultures of peripheral blood lymphocytes collected one week after vaccination.

Researcher Karl A. Brokstad and colleagues previously observed a similar trend, but the high level of influenza virus-specific antibody-secreting cells (ASC) in peripheral blood was short-lived and after two to three weeks returned to prevaccination...
