Infant HAV Immunization Needed for Eradication of Virus

Infant immunization with hepatitis A virus vaccine will be needed to achieve the ultimate goal of complete eradication, according to a report from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, Tennessee.

In February of 1995 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first hepatitis A virus (HAV) vaccine for use in the United States. The vaccine, manufactured by SmithKline Beecham Biologicals of Philadelphia, and other HAV vaccines are already in use in 40 other countries.
