According to the authors' abstract of an article published in Infection and Immunity, "The intestinal protozoan parasite Entamoeba histolytica causes amebic dysentery, a major cause of morbidity worldwide. The induction of a mucosal antibody response capable of blocking amebic adhesion to intestinal cells could represent an approach to preventing E. histolytica infection and disease.
