Individuals who have recently been vaccinated for hepatitis B may test positive for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and, based on such a test result, become disqualified permanently from donating blood, indicated Bruce E. Kloster, M.D., State University of New York, and colleagues ("Hepatitis B Surface Antigenemia in Blood Donors," Transfusion, June 1995;35(6):475-477).
