HSV-2 Vaccine Induces Humoral/Cellular Responses

An experimental herpes simplex type 2 (HSV-2) vaccine has been found to induce both humoral and cellular responses to the virus that are equal to or greater than those of persons with naturally acquired infection.

Genital herpes simplex virus is the major cause of genital ulcerations in Europe and North America and seroprevalence studies have shown that between 10 percent and 20 percent of Europeans and North Americans between the ages of 20 and 45 have evidence of HSV-2 infection.
