"DNA Immunization: Influenza, Herpes Simplex, and Papillomavirus."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the New York Academy of Sciences conference DNA Vaccines: A New Era in Vaccinology, held April 6-9, 1995, "DNA vaccines, comprised of non-replicating plasmids encoding viral proteins, induce antibodies and cellular immune responses and generate protective immunity in animal models of viral diseases. In mice, nucleoprotein (NP) DNA induced MHC Class I-restricted cytotoxic T lymphocytes and protected mice from death and morbidity following cross-strain challenge. Hemagglutinin (HA) DNA vaccines generated neutralizing antibodies in mice, ferrets and primates, and provided protection in mouse and ferret models of influenza. Combined...
