Intestinal Immunization Provides Protection

Following intestinal immunization with non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae and subsequent acute challenge with the organism, neutrophil populations have enhanced phagocytic potential, according to an Australian report.

In earlier study researcher Fiona J. Wallace and colleagues developed a rodent model in which the presentation of whole killed bacterial lung pathogens (non-typeable H. influenzae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) either orally or by subserosal injection, has led to an enhanced rate of bacterial clearance from the bronchial spaces and lung tissue.
