According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 19th International Congress of Chemotherapy, held July 16-21, 1995, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, "Therapeutic vaccines aim at restoring immune competence to the HIV infected individual. Early during the HIV infection immune responses are lost to HIV structural proteins, later also to recall antigens and finally the responsiveness to primary immunization and mitogens vanes. It has been possible to partially restore the functional memory loss to both HIV and recall antigens by repeated immunizations with HIV proteins.
