STD Clinics, Schools Possible Venues for HBV Vaccination

Sexually transmitted disease clinics, physicians' offices and even schools can serve as venues for the vaccination of teenagers against hepatitis B virus, but widespread acceptance of the vaccine is still a long way off.

This was the finding of several researchers presenting papers at the 11th meeting of the International Society for STD Research, held August 27-30 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

In the U.S. hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections are primarily sexually transmitted, and about 90 percent of infections are acquired in early adulthood.
