Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Technology Acquired

MedImmune, Inc., Gaithersburg, Maryland, and the University of Rochester, New York, announced that MedImmune has licensed exclusive worldwide rights to human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine technology developed at University of Rochester. This technology complements MedImmune's existing HPV vaccine program initiated in late 1992.

MedImmune also holds an exclusive license to certain HPV vaccine technology developed by Georgetown University. HPV, which causes genital warts and cervical cancer, is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the United States. There are currently no vaccines to prevent this potentially serious infection.
