According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 3rd Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, held January 28 - February 1, 1996, in Washington, DC, "The objectives of this double-blinded study were to establish the safety of a candidate envelope-based subunit vaccine in HIV infected pregnant women, and to measure immunogenicity of the vaccine and maternal transfer of antibody to the infants. Enrollment of 26 pregnant women who are HIV infected but without an AIDS defining illness, and with CD4 lymphocyte counts greater than 400 per mml, is completed.
