U.S. Says Many Children Lack Needed Vaccinations

One in four children between the ages of 19 and 35 months have not received all of the recommended vaccinations against childhood diseases, U.S. health officials report.

"More than one million preschoolers are still not adequately immunized," said Dr. David Satcher, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). He spoke at a day-care center in an event kicking off National Infant Immunization Week.

The CDC said about a million children under age two have not received the full series of recommended vaccinations. The reasons include cost, a shortage of public clinics, and the lack of a standardized system for monitoring vaccinations or...
