Intranasal Live Flu Vaccine Protects Infants During Epidemic

A fortuitous flu epidemic showed that an experimental influenza A vaccine protected infants against infection.

Unexpectedly, however, the study showed that the immunogenicity of one flu vaccine was reduced when it was combined with another vaccine.

Vanderbilt University researcher William C. Gruber and colleagues set out to evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of two live, multiply attenuated, cold-adapted (ca) flu vaccines (manufactured by Wyeth-Ayerst, Philadelphia) in seronegative infants aged six to 18 months.
