Researchers Say AIDS Prevention Efforts Overdue

The AIDS epidemic has turned 15 years old, and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) researchers said effective HIV prevention programs for those at risk, including drug users and young people, fail to be successfully implemented in the U.S.

"AIDS is here to stay," said Thomas Coates, Ph.D., UCSF Center for AIDS Prevention Studies (CAPS). "As prospects for a cure or a vaccine seem remote, preventing HIV and helping people stay uninfected take on even greater importance."
