AIDS Vaccine Evaluation Study Group Results Presented

Since 1988, more than 1,900 HIV seronegative adult volunteers have enrolled in 25 clinical trials of candidate AIDS vaccines conducted by the AIDS Vaccine Evaluation Group (AVEG).

The AVEG trials are sponsored by the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) at six university-based clinical testing sites and two central immunological laboratories. According to the NIAID, AVEG investigators have evaluated 16 experimental vaccine antigens, ten adjuvants to enhance the immune responses stimulated by the vaccines, and a variety of different delivery vehicles, immunization routes and schedules.
