Vaccine Trial Initiated

Antex Biologics, Gaithersburg, Maryland, announced that it has begun a clinical trial of an orally administered Campylobacter vaccine in combination with a mucosal adjuvant for the prevention of gastroenteritis and diarrhea.

The objective of this randomized, double-blinded clinical comprised of approximately 100 volunteers is to determine the safety and immunogenicity of the vaccine and adjuvant combination. "Pre-clinical animal studies have demonstrated that mucosal immunity is critical to the effectiveness of oral vaccines against intestinal pathogens like Campylobacter," said Dr. Vic Esposito, Antex.
