Immunization Initiative Making Vaccines More Accessible

The Children's Defense Fund (CDF) welcomed news about worldwide improvements in childhood immunization from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

The CDF also applauded recent efforts by states and the U.S. government to boost immunization rates among American children. The percentage of fully immunized two-year-olds in the United States rose from 55 percent in 1992 to 75 percent during 1994-95. This improvement resulted from such steps as increased outreach and greater awareness among parents and doctors.
