"An Attenuated Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus Vaccine Vector Expressing HIV-1 MA/CA Protein Elicits Humoral, Mucosal and Cellular Immune Responses."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 15th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Virology, held July 13-17, 1996, in Ontario, Canada, "A cDNA clone of Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEE), containing two attenuating mutations, was engineered to contain a second sub-genomic promoter immediately downstream of the E1 gene. The matrix/capsid (MA/CA) region of HIV-1gag was cloned under the control of the additional promoter. High level expression of authentic MA/CA protein was demonstrated in cell culture.
