According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 15th Annual Meeting of the American Society for Virology, held July 13-17, 1996, in Ontario, Canada, "Efforts to develop a vaccine to prevent infection by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) have focused on induction of neutralizing antibodies (Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci USA 89, 10527-10531, 1992). Cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) responses are another major immune defense mechanism required for recovery from many different virus infections.
