U.S. Flu Vaccine Decision Delayed, Outbreak Waning

U.S. health experts put off a final decision about the composition of the 1998 flu vaccine as public health officials reported that the 1997 flu season peaked in early January 1997.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia, said flu activity this season peaked in the week ended January 4, 1997, with 38 states reporting widespread or epidemic activity.

Two weeks later, the number had declined to 31 states.
