Physician Magazine Takes Close Look at TB in Tennessee

Contrary to reports of recent outbreaks in Tennessee, tuberculosis (TB) has declined in recent years.

In fact, according to an article published in a recent issue of Tennessee Medicine: The Journal of the Tennessee Medical Association, the incidence of TB in Tennessee has experienced a net decline of 18.6 percent over the past few years.

Although studies are showing a decline in the TB rate, there are some areas of concern for Tennesseans. There has been an increase in extrapulmonary TB in Tennessee as a consequence of the AIDS epidemic. Trends are showing also that TB proves dangerous for other high-risk groups such as the homeless, the HIV...
