Vaccine Licensed for Genital Herpes Management

Cantab Pharmaceuticals plc, Cambridge, Massachusetts, and Glaxo Wellcome plc, London, United Kingdom, announced that the two companies have signed an agreement to develop and market the DISC HSV vaccine for the treatment and prevention of genital herpes.

Genital herpes is a life-long infection characterized by recurrent episodes of the disease. There are approximately 700,000 new cases of genital herpes reported worldwide each year and it is now estimated that one in every five people in the developed world currently carry the genital herpes virus.
