Havrix Cleared for Preventing HAV in Chronic Liver Disease Patients

SmithKline Beecham, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, distributor of Havrix (Hepatitis A Vaccine, Inactivated), announced that it has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance to expand the license for Havrix to include prevention of hepatitis A in persons with chronic liver disease.

Havrix is the only vaccine specifically licensed for active immunization against the hepatitis A virus in chronic liver disease patients. It is estimated that more than 5 million Americans are currently living with one or more of the diseases collectively classified as chronic liver disease, including alcoholic cirrhosis, chronic hepatitis B, chronic hepatitis C, autoimmune...
