ASHA Operates National Immunization Information Hotline

Concerns about the new varicella (chicken pox) vaccine are among the most frequently heard questions on the new National Immunization Information Hotline (NIIH), operated by the American Social Health Association (ASHA) under contract with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) since March 17, 1997.

According to Mary Stuart, hotline director, callers are asking whether pregnant women can have the vaccine and whether it can affect other children in the home. The NIIH is also getting a number of calls about the hepatitis B vaccine from health care workers and others, along with questions about the diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis vaccine and new...
