Hepatitis B Vaccinations Up 44 Percent Since March '95

More Washington State children now are protected against hepatitis B than ever before according to the Washington State Department of Health.

A national immunization survey released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicated that the hepatitis B immunization rate for Washington children ages two and under rose from 37 percent in March 1995 to 81 percent by December 1996.

"Although our immunization rates have been skyrocketing, we can't afford to let our guard down," said Dr. Maxine Hayes, Washington State Department of Health. "A child's immunizations status should be reviewed at every healthcare visit."
